This article, called “Short of Money, Egypt Sees Crisis on Fuel and
Food,” caught my attention because it discusses the relationship
between food and fuel in Egypt. The crisis is critical in Egypt right
now because not only is it impacting their economy but it is also not
helping the Egyptian government maintain control while they try to
fend off and control the violent protests by their political rivals.
Also, farmers are having difficulties in supplying wheat because they
are lacking fuel for the pumps that irrigate their land. It will be
interesting to see how Egypt will handles this situation and if they
will listen to the US who warns them that if action isn’t taken,
disaster in Egypt will occur.
