I thought it was very disheartening to see how the Warsaw conference went. As the article says, the walkouts were unprecedented. It seems to imply that people are either A) unaware of how big of a problem climate change is, or B) Unwilling to do something about it. I suspect the latter. As the article goes on to say, fossil fuel subsidies cost $485 billion a year. This is way more money than what is being put into other, renewable forms of energy. Tying up more money in fossil fuels is the last thing the world needs. We need to make it easier for people to invest in and obtain other sorts of energy. The ideas that are being implemented in Australia, India, Guatemala and Mexico seem to be a step in the right directon. Unfortunetly, the UN Climate Committee is not willing to take these changes seriously. Only a few days before the Warsaw conference the Philippines was struck by the massive typhoon. If this was not able to force action by the UN, I’m not sure what will.
